Finally after 10+ years of discussion the NEW EN 124-1 to 6 standard has been published. Actually the standard has been split into 6 sections
EN 124-1 Gully tops and manhole tops for vehicular and pedestrian areas. Definitions, classification, general principals of design, performance requirements and test methods
EN 124-2 Gully tops and manhole tops made of cast iron
EN 124-3 Gully tops and manholetops made of steel or aluminium alloys
EN 124-4 Gully tops and manhole tops made of steel reinforced concrete
EN 124-5 Gully tops and manhole tops made from composite materials
EN 124-6 Gully tops and manhole tops made from polypropylene, prolyethylene or unplasticized poly vinyl chloride.
Finally manhole tops manufactured from modern materials can be fully tested and approved to a European Standard and will when the standard becomes harmonised be able to be CE marked to confirm compliance with the standard. Harmonisation is scheduled to occur in February 2017 it will then be possible for tops tested to the new standard to be used in all areas including on highway applications.
